what to bring on your bicycle journey
by: Peter

I don't use special food or drinks, just take whatever is available on the road. Nothing special because when it is finished you can't usually get it anymore.

As for equipment, that depends on how long you go, what climate, rain, dry, sunny etc. Personally I hardly bring any with me any more except basic stuff, as recommended here:

If you expect not to find hotels, bring a tent and sleeping bag, that sort of things.

A month is not very long. If your bicycle is in top notch condition, you should be OK with some basic spare stuff for tubes etc. My recent journey in Indonesia I had a grand total of 7 kg stuff with me. Some clothes, tubes, toothbrush and towel. That, plus camera, passport, money etc. But Indonesia is tropical, no cold weather stuff, no tent etc.

thanks a lot for this useful information. I live near a hill station so i do train myself in hilly area and have a feel of climbing slopes.I have a Trek 3700 and I intend to go for a solo ride from manali to ladakh. Can you kindly tell me about the necessary things, food items and equipments i need to carry with me?

bicycle training

I don't know where you live but the best way is simply making km's. Build it up, from 40 to 80 or so, add hills in. Make sure you have cycled with your full gear and uphill, so you know how that feels. It's basically what I do, nothing fancy, just go out, cycle a couple of hours and get used to it. The first real test you get on the Rhotang Pass anyway.
