Phonsavan becomes more and more a destination for travelers. Many hotels
in Phonsavan offer guides to the Plain of Jars which is worth the effort
coming here. In town there are several rock bottom cheap guesthouses though
not all are as good or clean as we offer here.
The Vansana Plain of Jars Hotel, Xieng Khuang province is built on a hillside, a
few minutes ride from the town center. The Plain of Jars is 30 minutes drive
away.
The Phou Chanh hotel is located in Phonesavanh town center close
to The Mekong River. The hotel offers a number comfortable guest rooms with
satellite TV, air conditioning and a mini bar. The Phou Chanh hotel is close
to the airport and is set on a picturesque hill top which offers amazing
views of the surrounding areas as well as trips to traditional hill tribe
villages.
There is a fine restaurants that provide local delicacies and western
food.
The Auberge de la Plaine des Jarres Hotel Phonesavanh is popular with
backpackers and budget travelers. The hotel has clean basic rooms. The
Auberge was originally constructed by a French/Laotian family and thankfully
retains much of its original charm and is a good and cheap choice while
visiting Phonsavan.
The Phou Phadeng Auberge is located a few kilometers from the town
center but this should not be a set back. The hotel is a bungalow resort
type facility and of local design and construction. French owned and managed
the hotel offers not only good rooms but great views over the surrounding
hills.
The hotel has a good restaurant with Lao and Western food. This is one of
the better hotels in Phonsavan.
The Maly Hotel, Phonesavanh Xieng Khuang is located in the heart of Phonesavanh
Town, Xieng Khuang’s capital. The hotel is close to Laos-Mongolian Hospital,
and is a short local taxi ride from the town market and bus terminal.
The Maly Hotel has basic designed rooms and staff that can arrange excursions
around Xieng Khuang. It's the hotel I stayed in when visiting Phonesavanh
and I can recommend both hotel and service although I admit, it is a few
years since I was there. The reports of the hotel are still good. This is
one of the cheaper hotels in Phonsavan.
The spectacular Plain of Jars is one of the lesser visited sites in
Laos. No one really knows how old the jars are but archeologist assume
they're at least 2000 years old. Located in a beautiful hill scenery,
this is a true "must see" area in Laos
