Hotels in Phnom Penh

Find the best hotels in Phnom Penh. The capital of Cambodia is for many travelers the entry point to Cambodia. Some stay a few days to enjoy the city, visit the Killing Fields and Tuol Sling, the museums or simply hang around the Mekong River. As Phnom Penh these days have many hotels of international standard we offer some mid range and top end hotels.

Bangkok - South Laos and Cambodia

Experience Thailand, Laos and Cambodia (including Angkor) on your bicycle with professional guides. A journey I have done myself and would recommend very much!

While there are no hostels or dorms per se in Phnom Penh but you can easily find accommodation for under $5 a night here. One option is to stay on Boeng Kak Lake. The sunset over the Lake is great.

There are plenty of guesthouses on (or just off) Street 93, which runs along the east side of the lake, and most of them have patios and rooms with a view.

Due to the cheap accommodation available, this area attracts its fair share of budget backpackers but it also attracts its fair share of dodgier types. However, if you want a cheap room, a lake view, and many fellow travelers to share stories with, Boeng Kak Lake is a fine option.

If you want a bit better quality hotel, we recommend one of the following options.

Low budget hostels and guesthouses

Mid range and top end hotels

Sakura Hotel

Sakura Hotel Phnom PenhThe Sakura Hotel is one of the older hotels that attract backpackers. They have clean rooms for US $7 to $11. Annoyance are the tuk tuk drivers not only being quite aggressive but also overcharge heavy. Be careful. I've stayed here once, was a decent deal, with friendly and helpful staff.

The hotel is central located with many attraction of Phnom Penh in walking distance. Should you want to visit the Killing Fields, ask the staff of the hotel first before bargaining with the tuk-tuk drivers.

Sunday GuesthouseSunday Guesthouse Phnom Penh

The Sunday Guesthouse is a family run guesthouse. Although there are no dorms, there are triples for around US $4 but the private rooms are a better choice as they have AC.

With a friendly and helpful staff and plenty of information available, it's hard to go wrong here.

There is western and local food on the menu.

That said, it's a little far from the attractions, you will need to use a tuk-tuk (or your own bicycle).

Encounters

Encounters is probably the ultimate backpackers guesthouse with only dorms (with hard beds) available (3 and 7 bed rooms). However, if you want to go as cheap as possible, this is your place. It's a good place to meet people and the owner had a lot of excellent info and is helpful with organizing visas.

Khmer Royal hotel in Phnom Penh Khmer Royal hotel

The Khmer Royal hotel, formerly known as the Star Royal Hotel in Phnom Penh is one of the best budget accommodations in the city. The Star Royal Hotel of Phnom Penh is located at the beautiful river side, along the Sisowath Quay.

The location is especially beautiful since three major rivers of the city have merged at this particular location. Since the Star Royal Hotel Phnom Penh is located almost at the center of the city, therefore the transportation facilities of the Hotel are quite good too. Tourist spots like The Royal Palace, National Museum and popular family restaurants are all nearby.

Cara Hotel Phnom Penh Cara Hotel Phnom Penh

The Cara Hotel Phnom Penh is another 3 star hotel which offers a better deal then most of the compatible hotels in this price range and located right in the center of Phnom Penh. It's not a huge hotel which makes your stay a little more "home" then many others.

Rooms are clean and spacious. Rebecca from Australia said: ""Very pleasantly surprised by the value for money - services of 4 star hotel at lower cost. Good location 10 minute walk from the riverfront. Very helpful staff."

New York Hotel New York Hotel

The six-story newly renovated New York Hotel is situated in the heart of Phnom Penh city on Monivong Blvd which is known to be the business, shopping and entertainment district.

The hotel is ideally in close proximity to many local attractions such as the historical Central Market, Sorya shopping center, Wat Phnom Penh Temple, National Museum, Independent Monument and the Royal Palace and other places of interest. The outside of the hotel looks actually better then the inside which is a bit worn out. Breakfast is not recommended by several travelers.

Intercontinental Hotel Phnom PenhIntercontinental Hotel Phnom Penh

The Intercontinental Hotel Phnom Penh is one of the top end hotels in Phnom Penh. Maybe not too suitable for cyclists unless you want a splurge.

The 346 elegant and deluxe guest rooms include Club InterContinental rooms and 29 fabulously appointed suites. City view rooms overlook the grand view of the city. All the rooms are spaced with luxurious ornamental local art and décor.

One traveler comments: "Wonderful hotel with friendly staff. Great oasis in Phnom Penh - clean and quiet with good food and a fantastic pool area."
