Camellia Hotel
The Camellia Hotel is probably one of the most visited hotels in
Kunming by foreigners. For many years the Camellia was one of the few cheap
hotels (with dorms) available for tourists. The hotel is also home for
consulates of Myanmar and Laos which makes it convenient to stay here too.
The Camellia is a nice hotel with good and clean rooms with a staff used
to help foreigners and speaks English. Most of the backpackers stay in the
old wing (right side of the photo). Compared to the new building, the rooms
are ready for renovation but they are still clean.
Room price include buffet breakfast which is Chinese and Western. When I
stay in Kunming, I always stay here as it is convenient located (Lao
consulate, Chinese immigration office nearby), easy going stay (bicycle can
go in the room) and reasonable priced.
Jinjiang Hotel
I stayed once in the Jinjiang Hotel. It was nice as I had an early
bus out of Kunming. The hotel is located near train and intercity bus station.
The hotel offers a good and fast service and speak English. Despite being close to main
road, the double-glazing kept it quiet in the B-block.
The breakfast buffet was very good, with a good range of food.
For a 4 star hotel the Jinjiang Hotel is a very good deal.
Jinda Hotel
The Jinda Hotel (Kunming Jinda Jiudian) is located on Beijing Road, one of
the busiest roads in Kunming. With easy transportation access and
comfortable guestrooms, a restaurant serving Cantonese and Zhejiang cuisine,
the hotel makes a good choice for both business and leisure travelers. Rooms
are decent but nothing special for the price but with the location you can't
go wrong.
New Era Hotel Kunming

A much nicer option is the which is located near the Flower and
Bird Markets and the Grand Archways. The rooms are clean and spacious. Not
all the staff speaks English and the breakfast is excellent.
The views over the city, with clear weather can be great (see photo).
The hotel has a good restaurant serving Italian and French dishes. For
authentic Chinese flavors, the hotel offers regional cuisine from Canton,
Chaozhou, Huaiyang and Sichuan.
Uchoice Hotel Kunming
Uchoice Hotel Kunming is another decent hotel which is
conveniently located near Yuantong temple, the Greenlake Park, zoo and the
Panlong River.
Travelers recommend the hotel for its location though breakfast is to be
skipped.
Green Lake Hotel
The Green Lake Hotel, a five stars business class hotel in Kunming
is one of the top end hotels in the city. It was voted
one of China's Best Business Hotels 2007 by Forbes. Some call it: "A
heaven of peace in the metropolis. A peaceful land in the noise".

The hotel is located next to the Yuantong Park and the Yuantong Temple.
Rooms and room service are suburb. You can't go wrong with this hotel.
The hotel has a 24 hour English styled butler service, speaking all
perfect English.
One traveler wrote: "This is probably the finest
hotel in Kunming if not Yunnan province. The views over the lake and park
are spectacular, especially at sunset, and the hotel boasts specialty shops,
restaurants, and facilities, and a huge, welcoming main entrance and foyer."
Yunnan Economic Trade Hotel Kunming

The Yunnan Economic Trade Hotel Kunming is located north to the Yuantong Park
and the Yuantong Temple, south to the Parkson Department Store etc with a
convenient transportation. It's good deal considering the very
convenient location.
Rooms are clean and spacious though few of the staff speak English. Some
rooms with view, high-speed internet access (RMB15 per day) Free airport
send off.
