Where to stay in Chengdu. There are many hotels in Chengdu nowadays. The first time I
cam in Chengdu there were only a few hotels for "aliens" open. The Traffic hotel was one of
better hotels with shared bedrooms and reasonable priced, despite the shared showers.
Nowadays there is much more choice. Let's explore the options.
Rock bottom places are Sam's Guesthouse, Mix Hostel and Sim's Guesthouse.
Check Lonely Planet or Rough Guide for info.
Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Chengdu
The first time I was in Chengdu, the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Chengdu was not build.
At the time most of Chengdu city center was still old traditional buildings.
The Crowne Plaza was one of the first skyscrapers. It was at the time the
sole number 1 hotel in Chengdu and it is still a highly respected and top
notch hotel, especially considering the room prices.
The Crown Plaza has 400 very good guest rooms plus additional facilities
as conference rooms, meeting and banquet rooms and a very good restaurant.
There are few hotels in Chengdu that match the Crown Plaza and it's
excellent location in the heart of the city.
The Tibet Hotel Chengdu is located behind the Holiday Inn
Crowne Plaza in the Chengdu city center (not far from the bicycle
shops). The main building of the hotel has 18 floors and include suites,
business suites and standard rooms all of which are provided with
Central air-conditioning system, IDD and DDD Service etc
There are good restaurants with Sichuan, Cantonese, Tibetan and
Western food in the hotel available. The Tibet Hotel Chengdu is a
good choice for the price, quality and location.
Once the Traffic Hotel was a main destination for backpackers.
Nowadays there are cheaper options available. However, the Traffic Hotel,
at the south side of the city center next to the south bus station is a
convenient location.
Rooms are decent and there is a restaurant attached to the hotel. The
dormitories used to be the cheapest rooms in Chengdu but with several more
rock bottom places, the dorms are no longer the prime subject for travelers
although the triples still go for Y50 for a bed with shared bathrooms.
The Riverside Hotel Chengdu is another mid range hotel. In Chengdu
there are dozens hotels like the Riverside. The hotel, like the Tibet Hotel
is located just north of Mao Square and near the bicycle shops. It is an
international four-star hotel attached to time-honored Baoyuantong
corporation. It is situated at the junction of scenic Funan river and Shudu
avenue. It takes less than 10minutes to most flourishing Chunxi road in
Chengdu.
Binjiang Hotel is a 3star international hotel located by Nanhe River,
downtown, with Chengdu Tourist Reception Centre and the Airport
Bus Terminal as its neighbors. Hence the transportation is relatively
convenient.
There are 181 rooms/suites in 2 buildings equipped broadband
access amongst its facilities
The restaurant cooks Chuan and Yue cuisine. Conference halls which can hold
20-150 people respectively, business copy centre, shopping mall, tearoom,
gym, chess and cards room, sauna, beauty parlor and car and bike renting
are also available.
Danba and Barkam are usually skipped by
travelers on their way into Tibet. However, it's an easy area to get a good
view of the Tibetan culture outside Tibet
Cycling in China visiting tourist sites means collecting
entrance tickets. It seem the Chinese do want to give you value for your
money. And I admit ... many are very nice:
