I just flew back from China to Malaysia

Had my stuff in a bag, handlebars turned, pedals off, saddle off, that was all. Different companies seem to have different rules.

Malaysia Air

I just talked to Malaysia air in Denmark and they only allow me 20 kg and charge me 400 DKR (70$) for each kg overweight.

A bit
by: Claus Jepsen

Your comments helped me a bit. First I am going to fly from Cebu to singapore with cebupacificair and they have a sports fee, which is 1000 peso (25$) for 15 kg. They want it boxed, so I guess I will go to a bike shop and box it in something I can through out, when I land.

My next flight will be from Bangkok to Denmark and there I have not yet ordered my ticket. Some said that Malaysia air was very good, and now you say the opposit, hmm.

You are rigt would be nice, if they just took the bike rolling, because I think that you are right, that they take more care that way.

But what I have read the pedals have to be removed (turned) ande the handlebar have to be removed and strapped to the side.

Which airlines are the most bike friendly I can't say, things keep changing. And it depends from where you want to fly. I used to have good experiences with Thai and KLM. Never a problem.

Malaysia Airlines are a pain, they once charged me US $200 for taking my bike. Airasia is fine though they require a box (which is sometimes hard to get).

Personally I prefer flying with NO box as I know people at airports take more care when they see a bike compared then seeing a box. Those guys do not read, they just throw boxes around.

But others swear with a box. What is wisdom? I don't really know. But I do know that in 10 years with several times flying, I never had troubles either using a box or not using a box at all. Does this help? I guess not:)
